The Development of Women and Girls Amateur Boxing
The ABAE appointed Rebecca Black as the first National Womens Boxing Development Manager in February 2008, based on the domestic and international growth of the sport for women and girls. Rebecca's role is to develop the sport with an emphasis on increasing participation and improving the infrastructure to enable women and girls to fulfil their potential.
To provide a clear direction for the development of women's boxing in England a national strategy has been produced which can be downloaded here:

To implement the strategy at a local level, regional women's boxing development groups / commissions are currently being established. The Tyne Tees and Wear region already have a female commission, and London, Home Counties and Western Counties have held open forums to start the process of establishing such groups.
Boxing Development Officers based in boxing 'hot spots' are also doing a great deal of work in developing women's boxing at a local level. An example of such work includes that of Kevin Williams in Manchester who is working with Levenshulme High School for Girls to develop a boxing club for the school and local area in a female friendly environment including the development of female coaches.
Opening the doors and enabling more women and girls to experience and take part in amateur boxing is essential to growing participation numbers. New partner agencies are vital to this. Rebecca is currently working with Positive Futures and the Fitness Industry Association to establish programmes across the country linked to female friendly boxing clubs.
Ensuring women and girls have a positive experience in boxing clubs is essential to growing the sport, sustaining participation and developing potential talent. As such detailed research regarding clubs provision for women and girls will take place. This will enable better information when signposting women and girls to boxing clubs and to ensure clubs receive the support they require to begin to be female friendly.
