2007 ABAE Annual Awards

.

The ABAE celebrated their inaugural annual awards with an evening of boxing and presentations in Sheffield on Monday evening.

The event recognised achievements from boxers coaches and officials at all levels, with special guests Barry McGuigan, Amir Khan and Herol 'Bomber' Graham among the stars from the world of boxing in attendance. The ABAE welcomed a team from Ireland for some international boxing, with Parson Cross ABC boxers Joe Rogers, Callum Cotton and Steel City ABC's Dale Truelove representing England. Special thanks go to Joe and Callum for stepping in at the last minute (less than an hour's notice!). Joe beat European silver medallist Steve Donnelly and Callum faced J Quigley, European bronze medallist but lost on points.

During the evening Richard Caborn MP was announced as President of the ABAE. The former Sports Minister, who is  now the Prime Minister's ambassador for the 2018 England World Cup bid, said: "I recognised long ago a few sports can really engage and deliver in the margins of society offering constructive activity, social inclusion and community integration. Boxing is one of these special sports. 2008 promises to be halcyon period for the sport and with two other Olympic qualification tournaments to take place in Italy and Athens, more athletes could hopefully qualify."
