Venue: Metrodome Leisure Centre, Barnsley
Brothers John (86kg) and David Dolan (91kg) both of Plains Farm ABC each go on to win (3) consecutive ABA National titles. The brothers to win an ABA National title in the same year. The others were Ray (54kg) and George Gilbody (60kg) in 1979, 1980. Chris (71kg) and Bill Bessey (+91kg) in 1999. Also John (60kg) and Robert Hair (75kg) 1887. Chris Bessey 71kg (Army) wins his sixth title!

John 86kg and David Dolan 91kg (both of Plains Farm ABC) equal the Gilbody double of 1979 and 1980. Craig Lyons 48kg (Wigan ABC) wins his first ABA National title following in the footsteps of his famous father, John Lyons who won a record (8) ABA National titles. Courtney Fry 81kg (Salisbury ABC) wins his third title with (3) clubs (Islington Boys ABC and Repton ABC). Glynn Turner of Golden Gloves ABC misses the heavyweight finals due to illness and is replaced by Patrick Lewis.

Venue: Metrodome Leisure Centre, Barnsley
Neil Perkins 69kg (Kirkdale ABC) goes on to win a 'World' Bronze Medal in China 2005. Only the third English man to win any medal at the World Games since 1974. He also secures Bronze at the 2006 Commonwealth Games (Melbourne, Australia). Paul Smith 71kg (Rotunda ABC) will go on and win Commonwealth Silver at the 2002 Games (Manchester, England). David Dolan 91kg (Plains Farm ABC) goes one better and wins Gold. Darran Langley 48kg (Hollington ABC) wins Commonwealth in 2002 and again in 2006 (Melbourne, Australia).

The ABA National Finals return to London after an absence of (11) years. David Price (Salisbury ABC) and Don Broadhurst (Aston ABC) both go onto become Commonwealth Champions in Melbourne (Australia) in 2006. The weights changed in this year with cruiser weight (86kg) and light middle (71kg) being dropped. Welter weight (67kg) is increased to (69kg).

The year Amir Khan (Bury ABC) entered the ABAs but dropped out of the quarter-final. He turned professional never winning this most sought after, and oldest, amateur boxing title in the World.
