The Ghanaian, Adrian Carew 67kg (Lynn ABC) boxed for his country at the 1988 Olympic Games (Seoul, South Korea). Paul Weir 48kg (Springside ABC) went on to win a Bronze Medal at the 1991 European Championships (Gothenberg, Sweden). Paul Lloyd 54kg (Vauxhall Motors ABC) represented England at these Games.

Michael Hall 67kg (Darlington ABC) also won U19 European Bronze Medal in 1992 (Edinburgh, Scotland). Chris Bessey 71kg (Army) wins the second of his first (5) ABA National titles (1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999). Bessey also won Bronze at the 1998 32nd European Championships (Minsk, Belarus) and was Commonwealth Champion at the 1998 (Kula Lumpur, Malaysia).

These are; Henry Thomas 54kg (Birmingham ABC), Richard Gunn 57kg (Lynn ABC), Fred Grace 60kg (Eaton Manor ABC), John Douglas 75kg (Belsize ABC), Albert Oldham 91kg (City Police ABC) (1908 London, England); Harry Mallin 75kg Eton Old Boys ABC), Ron Rawson 91kg (Polytechnic ABC) (1920 Antwerp, Belgium); Harry Mallin 75kg (Eton Manor ABC), Harry Mitchell 81kg (Polytechnic ABC) (1924 Paris, France); Terry Spinks 51kg (West Ham ABC), Dick McTaggart 60kg (Royal Air Force) (1956 Melbourne, Australia); Chris Finnegan 75kg (Hayes) (1966 Mexico City, Mexico). Francis Trojan also became an Olympian .. for Ireland! The famous 'Ricky Hatton' 64kg (Sale West ABC) wins his first ABA National title. This year it was (5) x (2) minute round durations!

The first Gold Medal since 1968 (Mexico) won by Chris Finnegan 75kg (Hayes ABC), Courtney Fry 81kg (Repton ABC) becomes and Olympian at the 2000 Games (Sydney Australia). Nigel Wright 64kg (Shildon ABC) went on to represent England at the World Championships in Reno, USA.
