Richard McTaggart 60kg (Dundee BC) and Willie Fisher 71kg (Craigneuk BC) both win Olympic Bronze Medals in 1960 (Rome, Italy). Other Olympians include Danny Lee 51kg (Woodhall ABC), Frankie Taylor 54kg (Lancaster Lads ABC), Phil Lundgren 57kg (Fisher ABC), Roy Addison 75kg (Royal Air Force), and Johnny Ould 81kg (Fisher ABC).

1960 - 1961
Year: Friday 28 April 1961
Venue: Empire Pool and Sports Arena, Wembley
The 'class of 1961' held their own in the European Championships (Belgrade, Yugoslavia). Paul Warwick 60kg (West Ham ABC) and Jack Bodell 81kg (Loughborough ABC) winning Bronze Medals. Other team members included Peter Bennyworth 54kg (Royal Air Force), Brian Brazier 64kg (Army), Anthony Lewis 67kg (St. Pancras ABC), Johnny Caiger 75kg (Army) and William Walker 91kg (West Ham ABC). No further European medals were won until 1991 when Alan Vaughan 60kg (Huyton ABC) won a Bronze Medal at Gothenburg (Sweden).
1961 was the year Scotland's Richard McTaggart won European Gold (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) adding to his 1956 Olympic Gold (Melbourne, Australia) and Commonwealth Gold in 1958 (Cardiff, Wales). The only ABA Champion ever to do the 'Grand Slam'. The World Championships did not begin until 1974 (Havana, Cuba).

Jimmy Lloyd 71kg (Army) won Olympic Bronze at the 1960 Games (Rome, Italy). Johnny Pritchett 67kg (Bingham ABC) went on to win a Silver Medal at the 1962 Commonwealth Games (Perth, Australia). Joined by Michael Pye 51kg (Harris Lebus ABC), Peter Bennyworth (Caius ABC), Brian Whelan 60kg (Cheswick General ABC) and Brian Brazier 64kg (Army) all winning Bronze Medals. A total of (5) medals. John Elliott 71kg (Wednesfield ABC) Finalist would go on to represent Jamaica in the 1964 Olympic Games (Tokyo, Japan).

Johnny Pritchett 64kg (Bingham ABC) wins his second, and final, ABA title. In 1963 he was the only English boxer to win a bout at the European Championships (Moscow, Soviet Union). However future Olympian Brian Packer 54kg (Dartford ABC) (1964 Tokyo Games, Japan) wins his first of (2) National ABA titles (1963, 1964). Ron Davies 91kg (Droylsden ABC) was a Finalist on (3) occasions but never became Champion (1958, 1962, 1963).

1964 (Tokyo, Japan) witnessed a number of future Olympians winning ABA titles including John McCluskey 51kg (Larkhall ABC), Ronnie Smith 57kg (Fisher ABC), Jimmy Dunne 60kg (Maple Leaf ABC), Michael Valley 57kg (Clifton ABC), 'Sugar Bill' Robinson 71kg (Stock Exchange ABC) and Willie Stack 75kg (Leamington Boys ABC). Also Robert Mallon 54kg (Dennistoun ABC) Finalist was the 1962 Commonwealth Champion (Perth, Australia).

'Sugar Bill' Robinson 75kg (Stock Exchange ABC) went on to win a Silver Medal at the 1965 European Championships (Berlin, Germany).

For the first time decisions indicated whether it was a 'majority' or 'unanimous' verdict. Tom Imrie 71kg (Bucchleuch BC) went on to win European Bronze Medal in 1969 (Bucharest, Romania) and Commonwealth Champion in 1970 (Edinburgh, Scotland). Chris Finnegan 75kg (Hayes ABC) wins his only ABA National Championship, however he does become Olympic Champion in 1968 (Mexico City, Mexico).

The ABA National Championships 'Final' were for the first time held on its own day. No longer would semi finals and finals be held on the same day. The first time since 1881. The 1967 Lightweight (60kg) Champion, Terry Waller (Lynn ABC) would become an Olympian in 1968 (Mexico City, Mexico) joined by Finalists Vic Bowyer 51kg (Battersea ABC) and Lew Yearwood 54kg (Small Health ABC). Others included Brian Hudspeth 64kg (Garden City ABC) and Alan Edwards 71kg (Worcester ABC).
