National ABA title 1910

30th ABA National Championships

1909 - 1910

Year:        1910

Venue:    Alexandra Park, London

The first year the 'ABA' champions of Wales and Scotland made an appearance although not winning any titles.   The Bantam weight title (54kg) was boxed for twice!   Originally J. Lee (Scotland) stopped H. Matthias (Battersea ABC).   However Lee was later disqualified for boxing as a professional.   In February 1911 the Bantamweight final was re-staged.   Wally Webb (St. Pancras ABC) emerged as the winner.   Fred Grace became an Olympian Champion in the 1908 Games (London, England).

George Baker 57kg (Hendon ABC) wins the first of his (5) titles (1912, 1913, 1914, 1919) for Hendon ABC and finally in 1921 for Polytechnic ABC.   Due to there being no 'Swedish ABA', no boxing took place at the 1912 Olympic Games (Stockholm, Sweden).   The 1908 Olympic Champion, Fred Grace 60kg (Eton Mission ABC) did win the ABA title on (4) occasions (1909, 1913, 1919 and 1920) but not this year (nor in 1910)!
